The challenge

Complete a balanced binary grid with no triples and no repeated rows or columns.

How to play

  1. Every row and column must contain exactly the same number of 0s and 1s.
  2. Three consecutive 0s or three consecutive 1s are forbidden horizontally and vertically.
  3. No two rows may be identical and no two columns may be identical.
  4. Starting clues cannot be changed and every published puzzle has a verified unique solution.

Advanced strategies

  • Two equal adjacent symbols force the opposite on either side; then use balance and the ban on duplicate rows.
  • When two equal values sit together, the cells next to that pair must contain the opposite value.
  • When two equal values have one gap between them, the middle cell must contain the opposite value.
  • Once a row or column has half of its 0s or 1s, fill every remaining gap with the other value.
  • Compare nearly complete lines with finished ones: two rows or two columns can never end up identical.
