The challenge

Reveal an image by deducing which cells must be filled from the clues.

How to play

  1. Each clue lists, in order, the consecutive filled groups in a row or column.
  2. At least one empty cell must separate two groups on the same line.
  3. Choose size and difficulty independently. Fill, mark ×, drag, undo and ask for a logical hint.

Advanced strategies

  • Add clue groups and their minimum gaps in a line; when little space remains, overlap reveals cells that must be filled.
  • Start with lines whose groups and required gaps leave the fewest placements.
  • Mark known empty cells with × to reduce the remaining possibilities.
  • Five-cell separators help orientation on larger boards.

History and background

Nonograms, also known as Picross, popularized revealing pixel pictures through row and column number clues.

Tips and strategies
